Cell Phones Suck, Reason #47: Drunk Dialing

Last night I had the pleasure of being woken up by my phone ringing at 2am for the first time since I kicked out Anthony. (Those of you who have called me while I'm napping know that I answer the phone while I'm still asleep). My roommate asures me that I snapped to attention good and quick and explained to my phone buddy that it was inappropriate to have called, it was inappropriate to have asked if I would "consider being with a black man" and that I was now hanging up. This guy had some serious nerve though, he's married and I gave him my number for a business deal. I've spoken to him maybe four times. Well, make that five now. Actually, it wasn't till I was making coffee this morning that I seemed to recall such a conversation, but had to check my call ID to verify that it wasn't some fucked up dream. I guess this is just another one of my crazy DC stories. PS- some kids threw rocks at me the other day again (that makes 4 times that people have thrown stuff at me since I moved to DC)

On a lighter note, I'm frantically preparing for our Halloween party : ) Stay tuned to find out why I believe nothing says "Happy Halloween" like an electric fire!

Epiphany on the Metro

I had an absolutely wonderful 28th birthday this year and have really made my peace with getting so close to 30. So, Karriem and I were at the metro last Thursday night, standing on the platform and talking about age, comparing and what not, but there was something just not adding up. It seemed like there were 6 years difference between events in our lives and yet we are only 5 years apart. After some serious counting on fingers and adding in different ways, it finally dawned on me that I’m actually only 27 years old. The bitch is I don’t know how long I’ve been confused about my age and it’s possible that I got messed up as long as 3 to 4 years ago! Oops.

ps- I also got us on the train going the wrong way. Is 27 too early for Alzheimer's to set in?

A side of DC you won't see off a tour bus

This is something cool Laura and I found on the way to meeting Ryan for dinner (can't wait to see you again in January, hopefully with Megan!). Oh but wait, there's more! There are some pretty goofy people living around here (yes, even after Elena moved back to Ohio)

PS- it's been just over three weeks with NO SMOKES! Hurray for me <3

Took my bike in to the shop...

So the guy at City Bikes (who was actually pretty nice) was all concerned when I went to pick up my bike on Saturday. He was all "you should wear a helmet" and "you need new tires" and "you ought to have a front brake on that thing". I swear the guy expected me to die in the next thirty days! I'm just glad to have the rear wheel fixed and the bigger sprocket wheel on : ) I rode to Bethesda like a mad woman, bought some 160 proof Rum up there and got lost on the way back. Got rained on right off the bat and was wearing a red bra with a white shirt. It made the final leg of my trip (grocery shopping at the Adam's Morgan Safeway) much more intresting.

My sense of smell is returning : (

I woke up a couple of days ago and noticed the most amazing stench all the way up on the third floor. It was obviously a kitchen smell so I was late to work so I could scout for forgotten produce, take out the trash and disinfect the garbage disposal. During this time, the terrifying thought occured to me "maybe this is just what my house smells like!" Fortunately/unfortunately (I haven't decided yet) the fridge had died and all our food (there's about 6 to 8 of us here currently) was rotting. Of course, no one trusted the fridge hadn't magically mended itself so everyone kept openning it and letting the stink out.

The repair man finally showed up an hour and a half late and didn't have the parts to fix it that night. My landlord was furious and had to apologize for "using the bad word" to no avail and the repair man stormed out. To his credit, Skip bought us a new fridge and loaded all our food (throwing out the rotten stuff) by the time I got home from work today.

One of my roommates drew this on the message board in rememberance;
